Garbanzo Burger: Recipe For Veggie Patty Burger

Creating a veggie burger recipe with garbanzo beans was one unique vegetarian recipe I designed for a great meat alternative burger. Bean burgers are one of the most popular types of veggie burger to make because their binding properties are the most desired when creating a meatless patty. They also provide a great texture and filling attributes like a meat patty but are less heavy on the digestive system.
People who are trying to find healthy alternatives for their burger fix will discover that the garbanzo burger offers a sense of fullness and will not make you feel groggy during the digestive process. Garbanzo beans, or chickpeas contain folate and iron, making the dish a great mid day energy and immune booster.

Cook Time For Bean Patties
  • Prep time: 30 min
  • Cook time: 12 min
  • Ready in: 42 min
  • Yields: 4 to 6 patties
How To Prepare Garbanzo Bugers
The process is quite simple, however keep in mind these veggie burgers are a bit fragile, so handle with care when frying them. I like to use brown rice and egg whites as the binding agent for my chick pea burgers. The rice acts as a filling component although it will break down quickly as it is digested versus white rice. This recipe for garbanzo burgers will make four large patties or if you prefer to create smaller ones, then six can be done. Cooking the garbanzo beans in extra virgin olive oil, garlic, and spices first will create another depth of flavor.
  • 2 Cups chick peas, canned
  • 2 cups cooked brown rice
  • 3 each scallions, minced, green and white part
  • 3 Tbs. parsley, minced
  • 1 Tbs. ground thyme
  • 2 each large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 Tbs. reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1 Tbs. smoked paprika
  • 3 Tbs. Extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 each egg whites, whipped to a froth
  1. In a non stick skillet heat the olive oil over medium heat, add garbanzo beans, garlic, thyme, smoked paprika, and cook for about 8 minutes, place in food processor along with the remaining ingredients or blender and blend until the mixture is the consistency of hamburger meat. Check for salt, add some fresh cracked pepper if desired.
  2. Using wet hands, form the mixture into either 4 or 6 equal patties.
  3. Drizzle about two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil into a non stick skillet over medium heat. Add the burgers and cook till deep golden brown on both sides.
  4. Place cooked garbanzo burgers in a warm oven until ready to serve.
Condiment Ideas For Garbanzo Burgers:
I love pairing these bean patties with spicy arugula as the "lettuce and instead of regular mayo, I like to make a tzatziki sauce and a quick curried mango relish. Choose either a whole wheat hamburger bun or a whole wheat English muffin for the bread, and if the tomatoes are looking exceptional at the supermarket, then add a thick slice as well.

Salads are a great source for adding the sweet, tart, and chewy flavor and texture of cranberries.  I like to use dried cranberries when making salads because they are readily available year round.  I suggest to buy the cranberries in bulk if you can find them, they will be much cheaper.  Here is a list of great combinations that are great with dried cranberries, you can mix them up or follow as suggested.
